Some advice - Payment and Visa

What you need to bring       Payment and Visa       Malaria, Vaccination and Health       Security       Food and Drink

It is suggested that you carry US $50 and $100 notes which can be exchanged for Tanzania currency at banks within the country. Moneychangers also accept other major convertible currencies.

Check that your passport has not expired and that you have travel insurance. You will need a visa to enter Tanzania which can be obtained on arrival at the airport (payment is in US Dollars) but it is always advisable to get your visa at a Tanzania Embassy before departure. Carry with you an extra set (photocopies) of your travel documents and keep them separate from the originals.

Some places you have to pay with US Dollars, such as National Parks, Lodges/camps, airplanes or ferries. At some banks one can use credit or cash cards (i.e. Maestro) as they have ATM machines, but be aware that  there may be a weekly limit for cash withdrawals (presently 1 million shillings per week).
